    Newby question

Hi all, thanks for viewing my post

I have a quick question about my phone and hope that someone knows the answer. Sorry for being lazy and not reading the manual :P

The other day I put my Galaxy S3 down and it made a beeping sound and I didn't know why. But today it happened again and I wanted to know how it happened until I realized that it only beeped when I put it flat onto my passport.... can someone explain to me as to why this is happening?

    regards

Well, you Melted Brain, no wonder you can not figure it out.

Yes placing the Gphone S3 face down does something like >

you can set the phone to silence the ringtone when you place it face-down on a table (although that's nothing new) and to vibrate when you pick it up again, notifying you that new messages have arrived.

What do you have the setting on>on or off? Go to Settings > Motion if you want to activate them.

Options include a vibration when you pick the phone up to indicate you’ve missed a message or call, shake to update your email list, turn over face down to mute, .

Actually I wasn't specific enough with what happened. It has nothing to do with the motion settings. and it only happens when I put it with my passport.

I tested it even further and it happens when I put the passport directly to the back of the phone, it doesn't have to be flat down. I thought it might have something to do with "S Beam" but I turned that off and the beeping still happened. So I tested it even further, I opened my passport and tried it with every part of the passport, it seems that there is something in the page with the photo that is triggering this beeping sound. It's strange like the phone is trying to connect to the passport. I know that's an LOL but really.... someone else try this and confirm for me please.

That's exactly what it is doing. There is a RFID inside your biometric passport which is triggering the NFC inside the phone. I think there's an app that allows you to see what info is stored electronically on said passport.

Keep your RFID passport data secure

My question > How close does the Gphone has to be to pick that up?
Why I ask? That would tell me how powerful the chip is, how close someone has to get/come to you/me to pick that info up.
